Security

For years the most popular garage door has been of the up-and-over variety. Sectional and roller shutter doors were far more expensive. Marley made their own version and thousands of their doors are still in use today. So did Sturdy, Henderson, Garador and others. Currently Hormann, from Germany, have virtually taken over this market, they bought out Garador and virtually all the other companies are out of business.

The Hormann door has a distinctive black plastic knob with the Hormann name clearly inscribed on it. The comes with two security options; 2 point locking and four point locking at extra cost.

In the past we have used these doors but now feel that they are not secure enough. The photo below shows how easily the door can be “can” opened whether it has two or four point locking. We have the night video showing four individuals openig the door within 74 seconds. Hence we now recommend roller shutter doors (which are now no more expensive) and require far effort before entry can be gained. Simply cutting the slats does not release or remove the door as the linkage remains in place in the guide channels. Also the steel pins in the guides on both sides of the door are not easily cut or even ground away.
